Learn how to cap how often an event trigger starts agent team runs.
Overview
Once an agent team is activated, it runs every time the conditions for its trigger are met. When an event trigger fires often, such as a CRM, Engagements or Signals trigger, that can start more runs than you need. The Throttling tab on the trigger lets you limit how often the trigger runs.
You can set two kinds of limit:
- Run frequency: how many times the trigger can run in a period of minutes, hours, days, weeks or months.
- Limit runs by field (optional): prevents duplicate runs for the same record within the selected time frame (e.g., once every 24 hours per company).
Set a run frequency limit
- Open the agent team and click its event trigger step to open the trigger settings.
- Click the Throttling tab.
- In the field after Run, enter the number of times the trigger can run in each period.
- After time(s) per, select the period unit: Minutes, Hours, Days, Weeks or Months.
- To prevent duplicate runs for the same record, click Select field under Limit runs by field and choose the field that identifies the record (e.g., ZoomInfo Company ID or CRM Account ID).
- Save the agent team to apply the limit.
Field names you may see under Limit runs by field include ZoomInfo Person ID, ZoomInfo Company ID, CRM Account ID, CRM Opportunity ID, CRM Contact ID and Row ID. To stop limiting runs by a field, click Clear selection.
If a trigger does not show a Throttling tab, run frequency limits are not available for that trigger.
Check how the limit affects runs
- Open the trigger settings and click the Analytics tab.
- Review the Runs chart under Recent analytics. Events are grouped as Executed, Throttled, Filtered and Failed, so you can see how many events the limit held back.
Analytics are updated hourly and are not real-time. If you see the message "Events are arriving but no runs have fired in the observed period. Verify your filters and throttles are not too strict.", raise the number of runs per period, shorten the period, or clear the Limit runs by field selection.
To stop a trigger from running at all rather than limiting it, deactivate the agent team. Deactivating stops it from running when its trigger event occurs, and you need to activate it again to resume.
