Learn how to get recent public news about a company or industry in GTM One chat.
Overview
Chat can search public web pages and answer from what it finds. Use it for information that is not in ZoomInfo or your CRM, such as recent funding, leadership changes, product launches, earnings, expansion plans or industry trends. Chat decides when to search. You do not pick a tool, but asking for it by name makes it more likely.
Before you start
- Chat needs to be available to you in GTM One. If you cannot open chat, ask your ZoomInfo admin.
- Web search reads public pages only. It does not read your CRM, your calls or your meetings, and it does not send email or change any record.
- Searching uses chat's normal credits. To see what a reply used, see How to see the credits a chat reply used.
Ask chat to search the web
- In the left navigation panel, click Home.
- Click the chat box and type a question that names the company, person or industry and the topic, e.g., "Search online for the latest funding rounds or acquisitions for Acme Corp."
- Click Send message, or press Enter.
- Watch the progress. Chat may show "Searching the web", then "Retrieved" followed by the number of sources, with a list of the pages it used.
- Read the answer. Click a source in the list to open the page and check it.
- Type a follow-up in the box at the bottom of the conversation to narrow the topic or ask about another company.
What works well
- Recent news, announcements and public statements about one company.
- Several companies in one question. Chat looks each one up separately.
- A time frame, such as "this year" or "in the last quarter".
- A technology clue from public job postings.
What chat answers from other data instead
Chat uses your organization's data, not the web, for questions about your own accounts, deals, CRM records, calls, open positions at a company or a company's ID. Ask those questions normally. See Overview of chat in GTM One.
Limits
- Chat looks at up to three pages for each search it runs and keeps the 20 most relevant facts.
- PDF files and very long pages are skipped, and so are pages that are slow to load or block access.
- Information is only as current as the pages found. Check the dates on the sources.
If you see an error
- "Could not find any sources". The search found no usable public pages. Add the full company name and a narrower topic, then ask again.
