Learn how to start chats, find past conversations, and work with artifacts.
Overview
Chat lets you ask questions in plain language and get answers from ZoomInfo data and your connected systems. You start a new conversation from the composer on Home. Every conversation is saved to Chats as soon as it starts, so you can leave it and come back later.
When chat creates a document, table, or slide deck (an artifact), the artifact opens in a panel beside the conversation. From that panel you can share it, download it, print it, or copy it.
The sections below explain how to:
- Start a new chat
- Continue a conversation
- Find past chats in your history
- Rename or delete a conversation
- Open, download, print, copy, and share artifacts
- Build an audience from chat
- Rate chat responses
Start a New Chat
New chats always start from the composer on Home. The New Chat button on the Chats page takes you there.
- In the left navigation panel, click Chats.
- Click New Chat in the top-right corner of the page.
- On Home, type your question in the composer, which already has your cursor in it and reads "Ask me anything... use @ to mention a company or contact".
- Press Enter to send your message.
The conversation opens full page with your message sent and chat's reply below it. You can also start a chat by clicking Home in the left navigation panel and typing in the composer there.
Continue a Conversation
- In the left navigation panel, click Chats.
- Click the row for the conversation you want to continue.
- Type your follow-up question in the composer at the bottom of the conversation.
- Press Enter to send your message.
- When you are finished, click the Back arrow at the top left of the conversation, beside its name, to return to Chats.
Find Past Chats in Your History
Chats lists your conversations, with the most recent activity first. Each row shows:
- Chat: The conversation's name (or New Chat if it was never named), with a two-line preview of chat's reply below it. A conversation with no messages shows No messages yet.
- Artifacts: Chips for the artifacts the conversation produced.
- Last Activity: Today, Yesterday, or a date.
- Started: The date the conversation began.
To search for a conversation:
- In the left navigation panel, click Chats.
- Click the Search conversations box next to the Chat History tab.
- Type part of the conversation's name.
- Click the conversation's row to open it.
The list updates a moment after you stop typing. If nothing matches, the list shows No matching conversations found. Clear the search box to see all of your conversations again.
When you have more than 20 conversations, use the pager below the table to move between pages. If you have no conversations yet, the page shows No conversations found.
If the list does not load, the page shows Failed to load conversations. Click Try Again to reload it.
Rename or Delete a Conversation
You can rename a conversation from the Chats list, or from the conversation itself.
To rename it from the Chats list or to delete it:
- In the left navigation panel, click Chats.
- Click the three-dot menu at the end of the conversation's row.
- Click Rename or Delete.
- To rename, enter a new name in the Rename conversation dialog and click Save, or to delete, click Delete in the Delete conversation dialog.
To rename it while you are in the conversation:
- Open the conversation from Chats.
- Click the conversation's name at the top of the page. The name turns into a box with the whole name selected.
- Type the new name.
- Press Enter, or click anywhere else on the page, to save it. Press Esc to keep the old name.
The name is not clickable until chat has named the conversation after its first reply. A deleted conversation cannot be restored. If a rename or delete fails, a message tells you so and the conversation stays as it was.
Work with Artifacts
Artifacts appear as cards inside the conversation. Clicking a card opens the artifact in a panel beside the chat.
Open an Artifact from Chat History
- In the left navigation panel, click Chats.
- In the Artifacts column, click the chip for the artifact you want.
The conversation opens with that artifact already open beside it. If a row has more artifacts than fit, click the +N chip at the end of the row to see the rest. Email artifacts do not open in a panel, so clicking an email chip opens only the conversation.
Artifact Versions
When you ask chat to change an artifact, chat creates a new version instead of replacing the original. Every version stays in the conversation as its own card, listed in the order it was created (oldest first). Click a card to open that version.
Download an Artifact
- In the conversation, click the artifact card to open the artifact.
- At the top of the artifact panel, click Download as PDF (or Download as CSV for a table).
Some artifacts can be saved in more than one format (e.g., a slide deck). In that case, the panel shows a download menu instead:
- At the top of the artifact panel, click Download options.
- Click Download as PDF or Download as PowerPoint.
The download buttons turn on once chat finishes creating the artifact.
Print or Copy an Artifact
- In the conversation, click the artifact card to open the artifact.
- At the top of the artifact panel, click Print to print the artifact, or click Copy to copy its text.
Print is not available for a table, which downloads as a CSV file instead. The buttons turn on once chat finishes creating the artifact, and they appear only for artifacts that can be printed or copied. After you click Copy, the button reads Copied.
Share an Artifact with Teammates
Use the Internal tab to share an artifact with other ZoomInfo platform users.
- In the conversation, click the artifact card to open the artifact.
- At the top of the artifact panel, click Share & Track.
- On the Internal tab, type a teammate's name in the search box.
- Select the teammate from the list.
- Click Add.
- Click Share.
To let everyone in your organization view the artifact, select Everyone in org under General access before you click Share. To copy a link to the artifact, click Copy link.
Share an Artifact with Prospects and Customers
Use the External tab to create a tracked link for someone outside your organization.
- In the conversation, click the artifact card to open the artifact.
- At the top of the artifact panel, click Share & Track.
- Click the External tab.
- Type the recipient's email address in the Enter an email address box.
- Click Generate link.
The tracking link then appears in the dialog, ready to copy. Share & Track turns on once chat finishes creating the artifact. For how to review engagement on shared documents, see How to View Document Analytics in GTM One.
Build an Audience from Chat
You can describe the list you want and refine it in the conversation.
- In the composer, describe the companies or contacts you want (e.g., software companies in a specific region).
- Press Enter to send your message.
- Send follow-up messages to narrow the results until they match what you need.
- If chat's reply shows a suggested action to build an audience, click Create on that card.
To build an audience outside of chat, see How to Build an Audience in GTM One.
Rate Chat Responses
Your ratings help ZoomInfo improve chat's answers. Rating controls appear below each completed reply.
To rate a reply as helpful:
- Below the reply, click Good response (the thumbs-up icon).
A confirmation message appears and the icon fills in.
To rate a reply as not helpful:
- Below the reply, click Bad response (the thumbs-down icon).
- In the Share your feedback dialog, select one or more reasons.
- Type any details in the Additional comments box (required if you select Other (please specify)).
- Click Share feedback.
To change a rating, click the other icon.
If you see an error
- "Failed to rename conversation. Please try again." The new name was not saved and the conversation keeps its old name. Click the name and try again in a moment.
- "Failed to print file. Please try again." The artifact could not be prepared for printing. Click Print again, or use Download as PDF and print the file.
- "Failed to load conversations" The Chats list could not load. Click Try Again.
