How to answer the questions Chat asks you in GTM One

Learn how to answer a question card that Chat shows when it needs a choice from you before it continues.
Overview
Sometimes Chat stops and asks you something before it carries on, such as which option you want, a short piece of text, or whether to go ahead. The question appears as a card inside the conversation. Your answer is sent to Chat as your next message, and Chat continues from it.
A card can hold one question or several. With several, each question has its own tab.
Before you start
- Chat is waiting for you. Chat asks only while it is working on your request. If no card is showing, Chat is not waiting for an answer.
- Answer the newest card. A card on an older message has already been settled and cannot be answered again; it shows as an Answered card instead.
Steps
Answer one question
- Read the question on the card.
- Choose an answer:
- For a list of options with round buttons, pick one.
- For a list with check boxes, tick any number. The card shows how many you have selected.
- For a text question, type your answer.
- To give your own answer instead of an option, use the Type your own answer... row under the options. It takes up to 500 characters. On a pick-one question, typing here replaces the option you picked. On a tick-any question, it is added to the options you ticked.
- Click Submit to send your answer.
If the card shows only two buttons and no options, it is asking you to approve or decline. Click the button you want. Either button sends your choice straight away. When Chat gives no wording of its own, the buttons read Cancel and Yes, let's proceed.
To pass on a question, click Skip. On a card with a single question, Skip sends at once.
Answer several questions
- Click each tab in turn. A dot on a tab means that question is answered, and a counter at the right of the tabs shows how many are answered, for example 2/3.
- Answer the question on the tab, then click Next to move on. Next stays unavailable until the question is answered. Click Skip to pass on a question and move on.
- When every question is answered or skipped, click Submit all (3/3). The button stays unavailable until then, and it shows your progress. All your answers are sent together as one message.
Use the left and right arrow keys to move between tabs, and Home and End to jump to the first and last tab.
Pick a slideshow template
When you ask Chat for a slide deck, it may ask you to choose a template. That card works differently. See How to choose a slideshow template in Chat in GTM One.
What happens after you submit
- The questions collapse into a single card headed Answered. It lists each question with your answer. A question you passed on shows Skipped, and a card where nothing was answered is headed Not answered.
- No separate message with your answers appears. If you reopen the conversation later, the same card is shown.
- Chat continues. Your submit is a real message to Chat, so it can start work such as creating a document, and that work may use credits. See How to see how many credits a Chat reply used in GTM One.
- If a reply is still streaming when you submit, the send is refused. Wait for it to finish, or stop it, and submit again.
If you see an error
If you click Submit and nothing is sent, Chat is probably still writing a reply. Wait for the reply to finish and try again. If the problem continues, see Troubleshooting Chat and AI Responses in GTM One.
