Troubleshooting note file upload errors in GTM One
Understand why a picture, recording or document will not attach to a note, and fix it.
Understand why a picture, recording or document will not attach to a note, and fix it.
Overview
When you add an image, video, audio clip or file to a note, GTM One checks the file before it keeps it. The checks cover the file type, the file name, the size for that kind of file, what the file really contains and a malware scan. If a check fails, the note shows a message that starts with "Error uploading file:" followed by the reason, and the rest of the note is left as it was.
The accepted types and size limits are in How to add an image, video, audio clip or file to a note.
Fix a file that will not upload
- Read the reason after "Error uploading file:" and match it to the list under "If you see an error".
- Check the file against the accepted types: images (.gif, .jpg, .jpeg, .png) up to 2 MB, video (.mp4, .webm, .mov, .ogg) up to 200 MB, audio (.mp3, .m4a, .wav, .ogg) up to 20 MB, text (.txt, .csv, .rtf) up to 2 MB and PDF up to 10 MB.
- If the file is too large, compress it or export a smaller version, then add it again.
- If the file was renamed to a different extension, save or export it again in the format its extension names. Renaming a file does not change what it contains, and GTM One checks the contents.
- If the file passes these checks and the upload still fails, wait a few minutes and try once more, then contact Support with the note, the file name and the time of the attempt.
If you see an error
- "Error uploading file: File size too large. Maximum allowed size is" followed by a size, then the size of your file. The file is larger than the limit for its kind. Use a smaller file, or split the content across several files.
- "Error uploading file: Invalid file extension:" followed by the extension and a list of allowed extensions. The file type is not one GTM One accepts for that kind of file. Convert the file to one of the listed types.
- "Error uploading file: Invalid filename: no extension found." The file name has no extension. Add the correct extension to the name, or save the file again from the program that made it.
- "Error uploading file: File extension" followed by an extension "is not valid for MIME type". The name and the type the browser reported do not agree. Save the file again in the format you want and add that copy.
- "Error uploading file: File content mismatch detected." The contents of the file are not the kind of file its name says. Export the file again in the right format instead of renaming it.
- "Error uploading file: File does not appear to be a valid CSV file." or "File does not appear to be valid text content." The text or CSV file could not be read as text. Open it in a text editor, remove any binary content and save it again.
- "Error uploading file: File is not secure". The file did not pass the malware scan, or the scan could not be completed. Scan the file on your computer and add a clean copy. If the file is clean and the message repeats, wait a few minutes and try again, then contact Support.
- "Error uploading file: No file uploaded". No file reached GTM One. Choose the file again and wait for it to finish selecting before you confirm.
- "Error uploading file: Something went wrong". The upload failed without a reason from the service. Try again, and contact Support if it repeats.
- "This note is read-only". The note is in the trash or was shared with you without edit access. Restore the note, or ask its owner to share it with edit access.
